Bletchingly Stakes Field 2012 & Barriers Released

The final field and barrier draw for this Saturday’s 2012 Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse has been released, the weight-for-age clash to bring Group racing to a close for another season.

Heart Of Dreams

Heart Of Dreams is the top rated horse in the 2012 Bletchingly Stakes field

Due to jump as Caulfield Race 6 at 3:07pm this year’s edition of the $125,000 Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) has drawn 15 final acceptors with the top-rated entry being the resuming Mick Price-trained Heart Of Dreams.

The dual Group 1 winning Show A Heart gelding hasn’t run since their sixth to Lion Tamer in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) last September, a race Heart Of Dreams won in 2009, but is on track for a successful return having drawn barrier five with Craig Newitt to ride.

Heart Of Dreams suffered a knee injury after last year’s Underwood and was forced to bypass the entire autumn this year.

Price however is happy with their progress and is excited to see how they go in the Bletchingly on Saturday.

“He’s had a good break now and if everything’s OK with him, we’ll press on,” he said.

Two other former Group 1 winners are also in the Bletchingly Stakes mix this year with the David Hayes-trained Eagle Falls (2011 Oakleigh Plate) in barrier six, and Green Birdie in barrier two with Damien Oliver to ride.

Winner of the Group 1 Krisflyer International Sprint (1200m) in Singapore back in May of 2010 during a lengthy stint racing in Hong Kong, Green Birdie returned down under at the start of the year and is now prepared by Tony Vasil at Caulfield.

The rising nine-year-old resumed in the Listed Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) on July 14 but failed to let down on the Heavy (9) and could only manage to finish seventh to Platelet.

Originally among the Bletchingly Stakes nominations, Darren Weir’s Monash Stakes winner Platelet is the most notable defector from Saturday’s clash.

The smart Strageic filly will instead race in the $80,000 Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

The Lightning Stakes is also the chosen race this weekend for Peter Moody’s up-and-coming filly Le Societe who has also dropped out of Bletchingly Stakes contention.

Moody won the Bletchingly Stakes 12 months ago with Mid Summer Music, winner of this year’s Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) in Brisbane, and while not accepting for Le Societe will still vie for back-to-back wins with Ready To Rip.

Set to jump from barrier nine with Luke Nolen in the saddle Ready To Rip is the sole last start winner in Bletchingly Stakes contention this year.

The More Than Ready four-year-old was previously prepared in Queensland by Andrew Williamson but transferred to Moody in Melbourne earlier this year winning their new stable debut with a tight victory in the Listed All Victorian Sprint Final (1200m) at Flemington on July 7.

Other notable Bletchingly Stakes 2012 hopefuls include the Wayne Nichols-trained Diplomatic Force, consistent General Nediym four-year-old Dusty Star and young Seymor sprinter Zamorar coming off a third in the Monash Stakes.
