Heart Of Dreams Returns in Bletchingly Stakes 2012

Possible Cox Plate bound galloper Heart Of Dreams will resume racing after a lengthy spell in the 2012 Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday, local trainer Mick Price keen to get them back on track for a big Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

Heart Of Dreams

Heart Of Dreams could vie for the 2012 Underwood Stakes - Cox Plate double this spring

The $125,000 Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m), which is brings an end to Group racing for the 2011-12 Australian Racing season, has drawn a total of 20 nominees this year including the Peter Moody-trained duo of Ready To Rip and Le Societe, as well as former Hong Kong sprinter Green Birdie.

Also among the Bletchingly Stakes nominations for 2012 is Show A Heart six-year-old Heart Of Dreams.

The always honest gelding, winner of the 2009 Australian Guineas, was last seen running sixth to the ill-fated Lion Tamer, who was subsequently put down after pulling up lame in the Cox Plate two starts later, in last year’s Underwood Stakes back in September.

Having suffered from an inflamed knee after that run Heart Of Dreams was given plenty of time to recover naturally.

Price is over the moon with that recovery, despite its length, and is confident in the horse not only for this weekend but looking further ahead.

“He’s still very vibrant horse with plenty of energy about him,” Price said.

“He didn’t have an operation or anything, his owner was quite happy to be patient and give him a nice long spell, which we did and was good, and he’s had pretty much a perfect prep and his knees are good.

“He’s done some dressage work and he’s done some beach work and he had a good time since he’s been back at Caulfield.

“He’s very sound, I’ve done some galloping with him and he has not done anything wrong and he’s pulled up good.

“There’s no heat in his knees or anything, so it’s all very good.”

Heart Of Dreams has contested the past three editions of the Underwood Stakes having also run seventh to dual Cox Plate hero So You Think in 2010 and winning the 2009 edition of the weight-for-age feature.

The $400,000 Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m), taking place this year on Saturday September 22, is again on the agenda for Heart Of Dreams who is gearing up for their fifth consecutive Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

Their dedicated trainer is also considering an even bigger WFA prize this coming spring with Heart Of Dreams a chance at the $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 27.

“Another Underwood wouldn’t go astray,” Price said.

“I’m not sure if he fronts up in another Cox Plate or not – maybe yes, maybe no – but we’ll just see if we can get to the Underwood in good order first.”

In the latest pre-nomination Cox Plate odds Heart Of Dreams, who has won six of their 28 career starts for $1.64 million in prize money so far, pays a juicy $67.

Two boom youngsters dominate the latest Cox Plate betting markets with Mark Kavanagh’s unbeaten All Aged Stakes winning filly Atlantic Jewel ($4) and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Pierro ($9) who won the 2YO Autumn Triple Crown including the prestigious Golden Slipper this season.
