Cox Plate 2012 Odds – Futures Betting

As one of the most hotly anticipated races in the country, the prestigious $3 million 2012 Cox Plate is set to be a thrilling event, with some of the best horses in the world taking centre stage.

Atlantic Jewel

Atlantic Jewel heads the early Cox Plate market

Touted as the Australasian weight-for-age championship, the early market for the glamour event has boom filly Atlantic Jewel as a short-priced favourite at $4.00.

The rising four-year-old earned her favouritism through a successful autumn, when she triumphantly returned from injury to record two dominant victories and take her unbeaten streak to seven.

Despite being very lightly raced, the daughter of Fastnet Rock has already scored two Group 1 titles and collected more than $900,000 prize money.

Next best in the Cox Plate market is another exciting unbeaten talent, with Gai Waterhouse-trained colt Pierro being offered at $9.00.

A son of Lonhro, Pierro burst on to the scene as a two-year-old, taking out the two-year-old triple crown in the Group 1 Golden Slipper, Sires’ Produce Stakes and Champagne Stakes.

Unbeaten from six career starts, the ace colt has already collected nearly $3 million in prize money.

Fellow Gai Waterhouse-trained star More Joyous occupies the third line of the Cox Plate market and is also coming off a sensational autumn campaign.

The More Than Ready mare produced four impressive performances to win all four autumn starts including a Group 1 treble in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes, Doncaster Mile and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

British superstar Frankel is currently paying $13.00 but is unlikely to travel to Australia for the event.

Frankel is joined at $13.00 by star filly Mosheen who was a dominant force in three-year-old events in the autumn, winning the Randwick Guineas, Australian Guineas and the Vinery Stud Stakes.

Other horses that fall under $20.00 in the early Cox Plate market include Irish five-year-old Cape Blanco ($15.00) and BMW winner Manighar.
