Caulfield Cup 2012 Odds – Early Betting Market

With the spring carnival rapidly approaching, markets are now being offered on the biggest races of the carnival including the 2012 Caulfield Cup which will take place at Caulfield Racecourse on October 20.

Atlantic Jewel

Atlantic Jewel is the early favourite to win the Caulfield Cup

Standing as the richest 2400m handicap event in the world, the Caulfield Cup is a prestigious staying test that attracts top-class horses from around the world.

Current favourite at bookmaker.com.au is superstar filly Atlantic Jewel who is being offered at $13.00. The exciting youngster is unbeaten from seven starts, including twice at Group 1 level.

The boom youngster signalled her ability to step up in distance in the early stages of her three-year-old career when she won the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) at Flemington by an astonishing seven lengths.

Following closely in the early Caulfield Cup market are German imports Mawingo and Lucas Cranach who share the next line of betting at $15.00.

The Anthony Freedman-trained pair have both experienced success in Australia, with Lucas Cranach running third in the Melbourne Cup last year and newcomer Mawingo winning the Group 1 Doomben Cup at the recent Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

Following the pair is 2011 runner-up Green Moon who at $17.00 sits just ahead of Peter Moody pair Brambles and Lights Of Heaven ($19.00) who both excelled at the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

Brambles won his last three starts of the winter in sensational fashion, leading from start to finish to score victory twice at Group 3 level and ended on a high not with a 1 1/2 length win in the Group 1 Queensland Derby.

Lights of Heaven also ended his preparation in successful fashion, backing up a runner-up finish in the Group 1 Doomben Cup with consecutive three-length victories in the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup and the Brisbane Cup.

The only other horse to fall under $25.00 is autumn star Mosheen ($21.00) who took out a Group 1 treble in the Australian Guineas, Randwick Guineas and Vinery Stud Stakes.

Last year’s winner Southern Speed is likely to return for another tilt at the Caulfield Cup and is currently paying $35.00.
