2012 Belmont Classic Field & Barrier Draw

The final field and barrier draw for this Saturday’s Belmont Classic 2012 in WA has been released with 12 three-year-olds accepted for the set weights clash.

Set to run as Belmont Race 6 at 3:20pm the $80,000 Listed Belmont Classic (2200m) is shaping up as a top showdown between many of Perth’s most promising horses including two last start winners.

The first is the Fred Kersley-trained Operational who has come up with barrier 10, Paul Harvey to ride.

Harvey was aboard the Tiger Hill gelding for their easy last start victory in the Dayana Plate (2000m) at Belmont Park and retains the ride as the up-and-coming galloper seeks successive wins at the track.

Ascot horseman Kersley is also represented in the Belmont Classic field this year by the in-form Confianza (barrier five) coming off a second to their stablemate in the Dayana Plate, and nicely bred More Than Ready filly Ready On Time drawn well in barrier four with Steven Parhnam engaged as she looks to improve on her last start sixth in the Listed Belmont Oaks (2000m).

The other horse vying for back-to-back wins is then Belmont Oaks champion Rantorini jumping from two with Shaun O’Donnell in the saddle.

Phil Humann’s Supranto filly scored her second stakes victory having earlier saluted in the Listed Raconteur Stakes (1500m) at Ascot back in March when she put three quarters of a length on her closest rival Just Wicked in the Oaks on July 7.

Having suffered a cut to her leg during the run Rantorini has since made a full recovery and is rearing to go on Saturday.

Other notable hopes include the Grant Williams-trained Elusive Image, Dayana Plate third placegetter Shoot For Glory and Redoutable gelding Wonorg who ran fourth in the Dayana.
