Irish Dream Ups Value With 2012 Winter Stakes Win

Irish Dream has considerably increased her value as a mare by gaining black-type success in the Listed $100,000 2012 Winter Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

The five-year-old was transferred to Quinton’s stables earlier this year with the goal of increasing her stud value and that is exactly what happened when she flew down the outside to claim a tight victory ahead of favourite See The World.

Quinton was happy he could tick the goal off the list with the daughter of Falbrav, who was racing in her first Listed level race since coming under his guidance.

“She was sent to me to win a black type race so she’s done that now,” Quinton said.

“That was the ultimate [aim] for her and she’s a valuable mare now.”

Despite getting stuck wide in the middle stages of the race, jockey Glyn Schofield was always confident Irish Dream could topple the heavily-backed See The World.

“The fact he was up in distance I thought he would be out of juice in the straight,” Schofield

“When I attacked him at the 200 [metres] I was confident my horse would win.”

Owned by Segenhoe Stud, it is not clear whether Irish Dream will head to stud this year or continue racing throughout the 2012-13 season.

Schofield was full of praise for the work of Quintion, saying she was in prime condition on race day.

“He sent this mare out in fantastic order,” Schofield said.

“From a jockey’s perspective she was well tuned, on the mark and she ran accordingly.”

From 29 career starts, Irish Dream has now won six times from and has collected more than $230,000 in prize money.

Queensland gelding Startsmeup was also chasing an elusive black-type victory but had to settle with third.
