See The World Tops 2012 Winter Stakes Field

In-form gelding See The World heads a 12-horse field named to contest Saturday’s Listed $100,000 2012 Winter Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm.

The Joe Pride-trained sprinter is chasing the second black-type win of his career after winning the Listed Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford last month.

The talented gelding has drawn well in barrier six but will have to overcome a seven-day turnaround after winning at Rosehill on Saturday.

Drawing poorly in barrier 12 is Queensland gelding Startsmeup who has made the trip south from the Gold Coast to chase his first victory at Listed level.

The Gillian Heinrich-trained four-year-old placed at Group level at the track last August and is coming into the race on the back of victory in the Ipswich Dash.

Out to break a horror drought is Kerry Parker-trained gelding Brilliant Light who has not tasted success since he gained a Doncaster start with victory in the Doncaster Prelude in April 2010.

The six-year-old went on to finish third in the prestigious Doncaster Mile but since then has struggled, finishing a best of fourth in his 12 most recent starts.

Returning from a spell is Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding King Lionheart who had just one autumn start.

But the former Group level winner showed plenty of promise in a summer preparation, finishing third in the Group 2 Villers Stakes and running fourth on two other occasions at Listed level.

The AL Maher five-year-old will carry the top weight of 59kg from barrier one with star Waterhouse stable jockey Nash Rawiller in the saddle.

Facing a step up in class is Michael and John Hawkes-trained filly Embark who has signalled plenty of potential in her young career.

The Choisir three-year-old won the Pacific West BM80 at Rosehill last start and has three wins and six place finishes from 12 career outings.

Also named in the field is Joe Pride-trained Fifteen Carat and Ron Quinton pair Irish Dream and Onecatstoomany.
