The Winner

#3 River Lad $3.80

This talented Queensland four-year-old showed he was more than ready for black-type racing last start when he produced a surprise victory ahead of Excellantes and Griffon in the Group 3 Healy Stakes at Eagle Farm.

He has reportedly progressed well since that race and is racing at his pet distance of 1200 metres, a trip at which he has won three of his eight career starts.

Boom jockey Tim Bell booted him home for the breakthrough black-type win and he returns to the saddle here in his final week as an apprentice jockey.

The Placings

#6 Prost $7.00 and #12 Howmuchdoyouloveme $2.70

John Thompson-trained Prost has flown slightly under the radar this week with all the talk about Con Karakatsanis-trained pair Howmuchdoyouloveme and Riva De Lago and the recently scratched favourite.

But the Show A Heart gelding hit the line impressively last start when finishing within a length of Eye Line Stakes winner Belltone and if he can repeat that performance he will go close here.

Howmuchdoyouloveme is a horse that has signalled plenty of potential with three wins from four starts but will have to improve again here in his first step up to Listed level.

The talented three-year-old has burnt the candle at both ends and got away with it at lower level and if he can settle at the start here will be near the front of the field at the finishing post.
