Magic Cassius Tops 2012 Ramornie Handicap Odds

Talented four-year-old Magic Cassius has been installed as short-priced favourite for tomorrow’s Listed $150,000 2012 Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton.

Howmuchdoyouloveme joins favourite Magic Cassius in stepping up to Listed level for the first time

Currently being offered at $2.40 by, the Angela Davies-trained gelding has signalled plenty of potential in seven career starts to date.

The son of Magic Albert has won five of seven starts and is coming off an impressive 3 1/2 length win at Newcastle on June 20.

Magic Cassius is stepping up to Listed level racing for the first time, as is in-form second favourite Howmuchdoyoulove ($4.00).

A winner of three of four career starts, Howmuchdoyouloveme made an impressive return from a throat operation at the Brisbane Winter Carnival last month.

Trained by Con Karakatsanis, the talented three-year-old won twice at Doomben with Brenton Avdulla on board and the Sydney jockey will again assume the mount tomorrow.

Also heading into the race in good form is River Lad ($6.00), who is fresh off an upset victory in the Group 3 Healy Stakes at Eagle Farm on June 23.

But the Natalie McCall-trained four-year-old will have to overcome an early obstacle after drawing wide in barrier 10.

Drawing at the other end of the stalls is Riva De Lago, the second Karakatsanis-trained runner in the race, who will come from one position outside his stablemate in barrier two.

Currently paying $6.50, the Encosta De lago four-year-old will need to turn around his recent form that saw him record two back-field finishes in the QTC Cup and Eye Liner Stakes at Ipswich.

No other runner falls under double figures, with the John Thompson-trained Prost the next best at $12.00.

Fresh off an Eye Liner Stakes fourth-place effort, the five-year-old gelding will be out to end a drought that has seen him not taste success since December last year.

Other horses in the Ramornie Handicap market include eight-time black-type winner Youthful Jack ($17.00) and Jason Coyle-trained gelding Martin Place.
