Winter Stakes 2012 Nominations Released

A 14-horse nominations list has been announced for this Saturday’s Listed $100,000 2012 Winter Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm.

One of the headline acts is Joseph Pride-trained sprinter See The World who is chasing a third consecutive victory after showing impressive form of late.

King Lionheart

King Lionheart is nominated to return from a spell in the Winter Stakes this weekend

The Danzero gelding won the Listed Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford on June 22 and backed it up last weekend to take out the $85,000 Westend Mazda BM95 at Rosehill.

A winner of seven of 22 starts, See The World will be stepping up to the 1400-metre distance for the first time.

Returning from a spell is Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding King Lionheart who won the Group 2 Shannon Stakes at Rosehill last spring.

The Al Maher five-year-old has not won since that occasion but had a reasonable summer campaign that included a third-place effort in the Group 2 Villers Stakes and two other fourth-place finishes at Listed level.

Another nominated horse boasting black-type success is Kerry Parker-trained gelding Brilliant Light who finished third in the 2010 Doncaster Mile.

The son of Fantastic Light won the Group 2 Ajax Stakes and the Listed Doncaster Prelude in the lead-up to the Doncaster placing but has been unable to taste victory since that campaign.

Promising Queensland four-year-old Startsmeup will make the trip south after impressing last start with victory in the Ipswich Dash on June 16.

Trained by Gillian Heinrich on the Gold Coast, the son of Danzero has won four times from 22 starts but has placed on another 11 occasions and collected more than $500,000 in prize money.

Other horses nominated for the Warwick Farm feature include Chris Waller-trained gelding Tromso and John O’Shea pair Glintz and Hendricus.

When betting opens later this week on the Winter Stakes, head to to get access to great value odds.
