Ramornie Handicap 2012 – Final Field Announced

A 13-horse field has been announced to contest the Listed $150,000 2012 Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton on Wednesday.

A number of quality contenders have been named to compete in the feature sprint including Con Karakatsanis-trained pair Howmuchdoyouloveme and Riva De Lago.

River Lad

River Lad heads into the Ramornie Handicap in good form

The Sydney-based duo will come from side-by-side in barriers one and two but both arrive in Grafton on the back of very different preparations.

Four-year-old Riva De Lago will have to bounce back from disappointing finishes in two starts at the Queensland Winter Carnival after finishing in the back half of the field in the Group 2 QTC Cup and the Listed Eye Liner Stakes.

Stablemate Howmuchdoyouloveme will be stepping up to Listed level for the first time but brings with him impressive form.

From four career starts, the Written Tycoon three-year-old has won three times including his two most recent races at Doomben in June.

One horse heading into the race with recent Listed level success is four-year-old gelding River Lad who took out the Group 2 WJ Healy Stakes at Eagle Farm on June 23.

The Sunshine Coast-based gelding produced an upset victory to beat well-regarded horse Excellantes in what was his first step up to black-type racing.

A son of Top Echelon, River Lad will again be ridden by Tim Bell after the boom jockey produced an excellent ride when on board last start.

Facing a step up in class is promising Angela Davies-trained youngster Magic Cassius who has five wins from seven starts in lower level races.

Coming off a 3 1/2 length win at Newcastle last start, the Magic Albert four-year-old will be ridden by Corey Brown from barrier eight.

Carrying the top weight of 58kg from barrier nine is veteran gelding Youthful Jack who has won six times at Listed level.

Also set to line up are Sue Grills-trained Ollie Vollie, local mare Getyourown and John Thompson-trained Prost.
