2012 All Victorian Sprint Final Winner Ready To Rip

Peter Moody’s recent stable acquisition Ready To Rip handed their new trainer his 200th win for the season with a brave effort in the All Victorian Sprint Final 2012 at Flemington on Saturday.

Moody, who has enjoyed a stellar season capped off by glamour mare Black Caviar winning the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, started Saturday with 197 season successes.

After Viscount mare Volando scored a big three length victory over the Morphettville mile in Adelaide Race 2, and Flying Spur three-year-old Infinite Energy won the Silver Bowl Final at Flemington early in the day, Moody was on 199.

Then More Than Ready four-year-old Ready To Rip notched number 200 taking out the $100,000 Listed All Victorian Sprint Series Final (1200m) in their debut for Moody.

Previously prepared by Andrew Williamson in Queensland the gelding has now won six of their 18 career starts for over $310,000 in stakes.

It was a tight finish on Saturday as Ready To Rip, who jumped the $2.40 favourite, just got the better of the Jim Mason-trained Gossip Girl ($7.50) beating her home a long neck.

Colin & Cindy Alderson’s up-and-comer Del Palio ($8.50) then finished off the trifecta just a nose further back with a brave Prince Obama ($8.50) the same distance away fourth in a blanket finish.

Of Ready To Rip Moody described him as a ‘tradesman-like horse’ and while happy with their progress was surprised so much late money came in for them to win the Sprint Final.

“We came here very open-minded, even though the market suggested otherwise,” Moody said.

“Someone might drop a six pack around because it wasn’t the trainer or the stable or the connections that swallowed up the 10-1.

“He’s a tradesman, he hasn’t shown us anything brilliant at home, he goes about his work professionally and he’s done a good job first time up the straight here.”

Moody was also thrilled with the double century milestone and was quick to credit Black Caviar’s regular rider Luke Nolen, also aboard Ready To Rip on Saturday, for staying on in Australia instead of being lured by the riches in Hong Kong this winter.

“It’s a fantastic honour but it doesn’t come from me alone, it’s a lot of people that go into making the business the success it is,” he said.

“Everyone from our owners to my staff and jockeys make milestones like this happen. Of course it’s a great honour but, as I say, the people behind the scenes make it work.

“I was unaware until today that Black Caviar’s win had been included in the total.

“He (Luke Nolen) was offered a position in Hong Kong but he knocked that back.

“I understand it was a short-term contract but he stayed with us and we’ve enjoyed a lot of success together.

“Our Brisbane carnival was a terrific success and so was the Black Caviar string of victories but again it all comes down to the people that make it all happen and we have a very good set-up at our Caulfield base.”
