VRC Winter Championship Final 2012 – Betting Latest

Peter Moody-trained mare There’s Only One is favourite to continue her impressive form and take out the Listed $150,000 2012 VRC Winter Championship (1600m) at Flemington this Saturday.

Currently being offered at $3.80 by bookmaker.com.au, the Testa Rossa four-year-old is chasing a third consecutive victory after winning the Winter Championship Handicap at Sale in May before taking out the Winter Championship Heat at Flemington on June 23.

On both those occasions she received favourable barrier draws but faces a far tougher task this weekend after drawing barrier 15.

The Caulfield-based mare boasts an impressive resume, having recorded eight wins from 16 starts on her way to more than $270,000 in prize money.

Following the favourite closely in the market is New Zealand-bred gelding Menados ($4.00) who is stepping up to Listed level for the first time.

Lightly raced with just six starts to his name, the Zabeel four-year-old has signalled plenty of potential with four career wins and is coming off victory in the $100,000 David Bourke Provincial Plate at Flemington.

There is a large gap in the market behind the top two elects with Future Solution and Galileo Gold sharing the next line of betting at $9.00.

Mornington gelding Future Solution has placed in his past two starts in Winter Championship Heat events while Galileo Gold won the Winter Championship Handicap at Bendigo on June 17.

Offering value for the punters is four-year-old Chosen To Fly who has won his last two starts and is currently paying $17.00.

But the Colin and Cindy Anderson-trained entire will have to overcome a number of obstacles including carrying the top weight of 60kg in his first step up to 1600 metres.

Also set to run in the VRC Winter Championship final are last-start place-getter Gail ($14.00), Tony Noonan-trained Sussuro ($14.00), New Zealand-bred gelding Lord Pyrus ($26.00) and Peter Moody gelding Doubtful Jack ($16.00).
