Huge Nominations List for 2012 Ramornie Handicap

A huge nominations list of 29 horses has been announced ahead of Wednesday’s Listed $150,000 2012 Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton.

Howmuchdoyouloveme is one of the in-form nominations for the 2012 Ramornie Handicap

Taking part as part one of the feature events at the well-regarded Grafton Cup Carnival, this year’s Ramornie Handicap is set to feature plenty of quality.

Veteran gelding The Jackal is the nominated top weight of 59kg, returning to the event he won back-to-back in 2007-08.

Whether or not the veteran will line up remains to be seen, with the nine-year-old not having raced since February last year.

Heading into the event in excellent form is Sunshine Coast-based gelding River Lad who produced a surprise victory over Excellantes in the Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes at Eagle Farm two weeks ago.

Trained by Natalie McCall, the four-year-old showed an impressive turn of foot to beat his more highly-rated opponent in to the line.

Another horse heading into the Grafton feature with recent black-type success is Joseph Pride-trained five-year-old See The World who took out the Listed Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford on June 22.

The Danzero gelding has been in excellent form this preparation, winning twice and finishing a worst of fourth from four starts.

Con Karakatsanis is bringing two of the top chances to Grafton, hoping it will be third time lucky after seeing News Alert finish ninth when he was injured during the race in 2009 and dual Group 1 winner Black Piranha finish fifth last year.

Karakatsanis believes both Riva De Lago and Howmuchdoyouloveme are in top condition ahead of next week, finding it tough to split the duo.

“They are thriving and I couldn’t be happier with them,” the trainer said of his Ramornie duo,” Karakatsanis said.

“Riva De Lago has an edge in experience but Howmuchdoyouloveme is untapped and keeps improving with every race.”

Other horses nominated for the 2012 Ramornie Handicap include two-time Group level winner Montana Flyer, Eye Liner Stakes fourth place-getter Prost and last-start winner Magic Cassius.
