Strickland Stakes 2012 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

A small eight-horse field has been named to contest Saturday’s Group 3 $125,000 2012 Strickland Stakes (2000m) at Belmont.

Heading into the race in good form is improving gelding Mr Moet, who will be chasing a third consecutive victory.

It will be the four-year-old’s first step up to Group level racing but he has earned his berth after producing dominant wins in his past two starts at Belmont.

Another horse in good form stepping up to Group level is fellow four-year-old Chester Road who will also be out to record a third straight win.

Both horses have shown their ability to handle the distance, having scored victories at 2000 metres or over in their most recent starts.

Trained by Adam Durrant, Chester Road boasts an excellent resume of seven wins and five place-finishes from 17 career starts.

One horse with plenty of Group level experience is veteran gelding Battle Emblem who has recently been running against Perth star Luckygray.

The eight-year-old showed he still has plenty of ability earlier this year when he took out the Listed Grandstand Cup at Ascot and is coming into the race on the back of a fifth-place effort in the Hyperion Stakes.

The horse in the field with the most black-type success to their name is Dreamaway who has recorded six victories, with five at them at Listed level or above.

The four-year-old mare took out both the Group 3 WA Oaks and WATC Derby in 2011 but has struggled this year and is yet to finish better than mid-field from three 2012 starts.

Other horses included in the Belmont Stakes field include Suzanne Forrest-trained Late Night Flight and Hyperion Stakes runner-up Rosie Rocket.

Head to later this week for great value betting options on all the Perth racing action.
