Big Field for 2012 Belmont Oaks

A full field of 14 horses plus four emergencies has been named for this weekend’s Listed $80,000 2012 Belmont Oaks (2000m).

Some of the best three-year-old fillies in the west will line up in the event with one of the top starters Adam Durrant-trained Just Wicked.

From eight career starts the youngster has signalled plenty of potential, winning four of eight starts on her way to almost $100,000 in prize money.

Another highly promising filly heading with results on the board is Pattie Me Lass, who has already competed in some black-type events.

Trained by Dennis Ramsay, Pattie Me Lass has won twice and placed another five times from 12 career outings.

One horse with black-type success already to their name is rising filly Rantorini who took out the Listed Raconteur Stakes in March at Ascot.

The talented youngster is lightly raced for just six starts but has recorded two victories and already collected over $60,000 in prize money.

A son of Supranto, Rantorini comes into the race on the back of a good last-start effort where she finished fourth to highly-rated youngster Rohan in the Belmont Guineas.

Other horses set to run in the three-year-old fillies’ feature are last-start place-getter Foo Foo The Snoo, Lark Hill-based Jim ‘N’ Jim and Fred Kersley-trained Ready On Time.

The Belmont Oaks is one of two feature races to take place at Perth this weekend, with the Group 3 Strickland Stakes the other key event.

Run over 2000 metres, the Strickland Stakes will test a quality eight horse field that includes former WA Oaks and WATC Derby winner Dreamaway.
