Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
This Saturday Flemington Racecourse will come to life as they host their always popular ‘Finals Day’, one of the key events on the eight race program being the All Victorian Sprint Series Final 2012.
A small field of just 11 acceptors are engaged to face off in this year’s edition of the $100,000 Listed All Victorian Sprint Series Final (1200m) which is due to jump at 3:38pm as Flemington Race 7, the same race number as the spring’s famous Melbourne Cup.
Heading the All Victorian Sprint Series Final field and weights for 2012 is the Colin & Cindy Alderson-trained Perturbo who will be forced to carry a hefty 60kg from barrier one.
The Jugah six-year-old enjoyed a minor stakes placing during the Melbourne Cup Carnival in the spring but has failed in their two first-up wins at Flemington this time in when carrying 60kg both times.
Perturbo will be joined by stablemate Del Palio on Saturday, the Invincible Spirit four-year-old drawn wide in gate 10.
Del Palio has been racing competitively this campaign and come off a close third to Beyond pardon in an All Victorian Sprint Heat over 1000m on June 9.
The next heaviest weighted hopeful is then the horse that beat Del Palio home last time out, Robert Smerdon’s in-form Beyond Pardon with 56.5kg.
Also by Invincible Spirit five-year-old Beyond Pardon will be ridden by Michael Rodd from gate nine on Saturday coming off a close second to See The World in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) at Gosford on June 22.
There are three last start winners engaged in the final out for successive wins with the Darren Weir-trained Broken (barrier 11) who won a Sprint Heat on June 23 by nearly two lengths, Sean Mott’s Bendigo galloper Verdasco (barrier five) coming off a win over this track and distance, and Testa Rossa mare Gossip Girl who has the ideal barrier two draw and Glen Boss in the saddle.
Also coming off some nice form are the likes of Prince Obama and Dash For Viz while Peter Moody’s More Than Ready four-year-old Ready To Rip will resume racing in the Ascot Handicap.
Drawn in gate four with Black Caviar’s regular rider Luke Nolen in the saddle Ready To Rip was last seen running second to Steel Zip in the Sunshine Coast Cup (1400m) on February 5.
Below is the complete 2012 All Victorian Sprint Series Final field, barriers, jockeys and weights.
