Former Australian star So You Think is set to end his racing career on Saturday in the 2012 Eclipse Stakes at Sandown in the UK.
The 10-time Group 1 winner has a chance to add one more elite level title to his resume before returning to Australia to stand at stud for the Coolmore operation later this year.
Trainer Aidan O’Brien all but confirmed speculation that Saturday would be the final race for the former Bart Cummings-trained star.
“The plan for So You Think at the moment is the Eclipse at Sandown on Saturday and that possibly could be his last race before going back to Australia,” O’Brien said.
If the market is anything to go by the two-time Cox Plate champion will go out a winner with most bookmakers installing him as odds-on favourite at around $1.90.
So You Think departed Australia’s shores following his Melbourne Cup third-place finish in 2010 and after a less than typically successful period bounced back recently to claim the Group 1 Tattersall’s Gold Cup and the Prince of Wales’s Stakes.
O’Brien admitted after his most recent victory that he had trained the star poorly early and had only recently rectified it following the advice of many trainers including Bart Cummings.
The Irish trainer had previously overworked the son of High Chapparal but has recently reverted to a more “Australian way” of training designed to allow him to show a sharp turn of foot.
So You Think will come up against many of his rivals from the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes, with third place-getter Farhh ($4.50) the next best in the market followed by runner-up Carlton House ($9.00).
Other horses set to run include Dubai World Cup winner Monterosso and Cox Plate invitee Planteur.
