Boom filly Elite Elle will feature in the 2012 Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival after impressing in her first step up to metropolitan racing on Saturday.
After impressing with wins in the first two starts of her career at Mornington and Bendigo, the Tony Vasil-trained two-year-old produced a dominant performance to win a $70,000 2YO event at Caulfield.
Vasil said the talented youngster will now have a short break before returning to make her black-type debut in some of the early fillies’ events of the Melbourne spring.
“There’s a race called the Quezette (Caulfield) and there’s the Crockett (Moonee Valley) so they will probably be two tracks where it will more than likely be soft,” he said.
With Craig Newitt on board, the daughter of Shamardal showed her appreciation for some give in the ground as she took top honours by nearly two lengths in front of Grand Emperor.
“She is pretty push button and Craig did a terrific job there, handled her well and she looked to have the race in control a long way out,” Vasil said.
“She showed once again she enjoyed the soft ground so I hope it’s a wet spring.”
Newitt, who is leading the Melbourne jockey premiership, was also full of praise for Elite Elle, describing her as a “very good horse.”
“I didn’t even ask her (to extend), she just went through her gears herself and I kept her going to the line,” Newitt said.
“She is well above average and she is a little jet in the wet which is a bonus.”
A daughter of Shamardal, Elite Elle has collected more almost $70,000 in prize money from her three unbeaten starts.
