Adnocon Features in Ascot Handicap 2012 Nominations

After being scratched from last Saturday’s Glasshouse Handicap at the Sunshine Coast, Adnocon could get their chance this weekend with the Sydney raider nominated for the 2012 Ascot Handicap at Brisbane’s Eagle Farm Racecourse.

Glasshouse Handicap withdrawal Adnocon has been nominated for the 2012 Ascot Handicap this Saturday

The Caloundra Cup Day races were run on a Heavy (10) track at the Sunshine Coast after relentless rain fell on the course earlier in the week.

Rosehill trainer Gerald Ryan made the decision on the morning of the race to scratch his Clang gelding Adnocon from the event due to the unsuitable surface.

The gallant galloper was coming off a third to subsequent Glasshouse Handicap winner Belltone in the Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) at Ipswich, a race Adnocon had won the two previous years.

Despite the disappointment of having to miss the Glasshouse Ryan hopes Adnocon can score a consolation prize with a win in the $80,000 Listed Ascot Handicap (1200m) this Saturday.

Just nine horses feature in the Ascot Handicap 2012 nominations the top-rated of which is the Norm Hilton-trained Bold Glance.

The Sequalo six-year-old was in top form last year with their best result being a third to Sacred Choice in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) but they haven’t been able to reproduce the same form since.

Resuming on June 23 this year Bold Glance ran seventh in the Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm, an effort their Toowoomba-based trainer hopes they can improve on.

Other notable hopefuls include the consistent Gillian Heinrich-trained Bel Esprit four-year-old Audacious Spirit, Rob Heathcote’s Lightning Handicap winner Griffon coming off a third in the WJ Healy Stakes, and Danny Williams’ in-form Goulburn galloper How Much My Love.
