Jackie Crompton-trained gelding Double Impact is favourite to win tomorrow’s Listed 2012 Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) after showing impressive form throughout the winter carnival.
Currently paying $3.40 at bookmaker.com.au, the son of Mossman has been unable to score victory this campaign but has produced some solid performances.
He kicked off his winter with a third-place effort in the Gold Coast Guineas before suffering his only bad run of the carnival when seventh in the Fred Best Classic.
He then was less than 1 1/2 lengths behind the winner when fourth in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas and most recently finished third to Mental in the Daybreak Lover.
Playing into the gelding’s favour will be the track, with wet weather ensuring the Sunshine Coast feature meeting will be run on a heavy surface.
The talented three-year-old has won twice on heavy tracks and only finished outside the top three on only three occasions from seven wet track starts.
Next best in the market is Brian Smith-trained gelding Venture On ($5.00) who is coming off a runner-up finish in the Listed Daybreak Lover on June 9.
The son of Nothing To Lose has made an impressive start to his career, winning three times from seven starts and placing on two other occasions.
Only one other runner falls under double figures in the three-year-0ld feature, with Melbourne-based filly Ametsis being offered at $8.00.
The Redoute’s Choice three-year-old signalled her potential earlier this month when fourth against quality older horses in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes on a heavy Eagle Farm track.
Also set to run in the Sunshine Coast Guineas are New Zealand-bred geldling Dollario ($14.00) and Robert Heathcote-trained Volkhere.
