Alberton Park Heads 2012 Civic Stakes Odds

John O’Shea’s stakes winning mare Alberton Park has opened the narrow favourite in the Civic Stakes 2012 odds to win her second black type of the season on Saturday.

Alberton Park has opened favourite to win the 2012 Civic Stakes on Saturday

The headline race in Sydney this weekend the $100,000 Listed Civic Stakes (1400m) is set to run as Rosehill Gardens Race 6 at 3:03pm.

Eleven gallopers are engaged in this year’s Civic Stakes field including Alberton Park in barrier nine with apprentice hoop Chad Schofield engaged for the ride.

In the early Civic Stakes betting markets at bookmaker.com.au Alberton Park is the top fancy at a quote of $4.50.

Two starts back she enjoyed a good first-up win in the Listed June Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill.

She was last seen running two lengths away sixth to See The World, who earlier ran third in the June Stakes, in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) at Gosford last Friday.

Getting back to Rosehill and up to the 1400m the bookies rate the former Queenslander a top chance.

In a tight Civic Stakes betting market three other hopefuls are under double-figures with:

  • #7 Famous Seamus ($5) – Elusive City three-year-old in good form having won over 1100m at the track last start on a Heavy (10), prefers it wet but has winning form on Good ground too
  • #8 Ideal Position ($5.50) – Another last-start winner at Rosehill but over the 1400m, great form going into this the Mudgee galloper has won four of their five starts this prep and the distance is ideal
  • #3 Tromso ($7.50) – Chris Waller-trained Lonhro gelding comes off a fifth in the Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes (1200mi) at Eagle Farm, will appreciate coming back to Rosehill where they have a great record and dropping back in class
  • #11 Malavio ($7.50) – Progressive Snitzel three-year-old comes off two very narrow second place finishes over 1200m firstly at Rosehill than Warwick Farm, Nathan Berry stays on for their first test over 1400m

Other notable  chances not without their claims on Saturday include Alberton Park’s up-and-coming stablemate Think Mink ($10) drawn nicely in barrier three, former Tassie champ Lady Lynette ($10) who needs to overcome the 59kg topweight, and the Guy Walter-trained National Sprint winner Hood ($11).
