The final field and barrier draw for the latest Sydney winter stakes showdown has been released with 11 gallopers accepted to contest the $100,000 Listed Civic Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday.
Due to run as Rosehill Race 6 at 3:03pm the Civic Stakes 2012 is shaping up as an intriguing clash with the field coming via a number of different lead-ups.
Topping the Civic Stakes field and weights with 59kg is multiple Group winning mare Lady Lynette.
Drawn in gate two with Peter Robl to ride the former Tasmanian has just her second start for new trainers Lee Freedman and Graeme Rogerson.
Previously prepared by David & Scott Brunton under her old trainers the Ladoni seven-year-old enjoyed eight stakes victories most recently the Listed Vamos Stakes (1400m) at Launceston in February.
She failed at her first run for Freedman and Rogerson however when crossing dead last in the Listed Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) at Scone on May 19.
On Saturday Lady Lynette gets a chance to bounce back but she gives lots of weight to some classy rivals and looks to have her work cut out for her.
Three of the big name players in the Civic Stakes this year follow in the weights with Brilliant Light (56.5kg), Tromso (56.5kg) and Alberton Park (55kg).
The Kerry Parker-trained Brilliant Light (barrier seven) returns to racing after an extended seven month break with connections hoping to reignite the former stakes winner’s zest for racing.
Tromso (barrier six) from the Sydney stables of Chris Waller is likely to start one of the Civic Stakes betting favourites with the Lonhro five-year-old to appreciate the step back in class after their fifth in the Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm last Saturday.
Alberton Park (barrier nine) meanwhile is looking to bounce back after their sixth to See The World last Friday at Gosford in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m).
Before the Takeover Target John O’Shea’s Thorn Park mare was impressive first-up winning the Listed June Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill.
Along with Alberton Park O’Shea is also represented in the race by his Scardee Cat mare Think Mink who has drawn ideally with barrier three and Corey Brown riding.
There are two last-start winners engaged in the Civic Stakes field this year with the Noel Mayfield-Smith-trained Famous Seamus and Jeff Brasch’s Ideal Position.
Elusive City three-year-old Famous Seamus runs well on all types of ground but thrived on a Heavy (10) at Rosehill on June 16 to win a benchmark 85 over 1100m which earned them a shot in the Civic Stakes.
Ideal Position also comes off a Rosehill win but over 1400m, the ultra-consistent Snippetson four-year-old having won four of their five starts this time in.
