Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Experienced gelding Adnocon will be out to avenge close defeats from two previous attempts when he lines up in Saturday’s 2012 Glasshouse Handicap (1400m).
The Gerald Ryan-trained six-year-old is heading towards a third tilt at the Sunshine Coast feature sprint after finishing runner-up to Woorim in 2010 and fourth in 2011.
A 46-time starter, the son of Clang is a a veteran sprinter that has scored eight victories and collected nearly $500,000 in prize money.
Trainer Ryan is hoping he will be aided by a good barrier draw in a tough field that is likely to include the in-form Belltone and Jetset Lad.
“He’s been beaten in the Glasshouse for the last two years and hopefully this time he gets to win it,” Ryan said.
“It looks like it will be a pretty tough field so a good draw would help. It always does.”
After a five month break, Adnocon went within half a length of claiming his third consecutive Eye Liner Stakes victory two Saturdays ago when third to Belltone in the Listed feature.
Ryan is confident the six-year-old has recovered well from the hit-out and will be ready to perform this weekend.
“He pulled up really well after the Eye Liner,” Ryan said.
Adnocon is one of 25 horses nominated for the event that will be reduced to 18 when final acceptances are made tomorrow.
John Wheeler-trained Jetset lad will be backing up for the third week in a row after consecutive runner-up finishes including an unlucky close defeat in Saturday’s Tattersall’s Mile.
The New Zealand four-year-old missed the start but fought hard to find a run only to be beaten at the post by Chris Waller-trained Firebolt.
Also nominated is Sunshine Coast-based gelding Phelan Ready who has not won since he took out the prestigious Golden Slipper in 2009.
The race takes place as part of an action-packed card that is headed by the $200,000 Caloundra Cup.
