2012 Glasshouse Handicap Nominations – Caloundra Cup Day

The Sunshine Coast Turf Club is gearing up for their big winter meet this Saturday, Caloundra Cup Day to feature three black type events including the Glasshouse Handicap 2012.

Eye Liner Stakes winner Belltone will back up in the 2012 Glasshouse Handicap this weekend

A total of 25 horses were nominated for this year’s edition of the $175,000 Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1400m), a feature won 12 months ago by Rob Heathcote’s subsequent Group 1 Oakleigh Plate winner Woorim.

Headlining the list of Glasshouse Handicap nominees for 2012 is the Kelso Wood-trained Belltone.

The in-form Brahms six-year-old ran a good second to Celtic Dancer in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1300m) in the wet at Eagle Farm two back before their good win in the Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) at Ipswich last time out on June 16.

“He’ll love a big track like Caloundra and I think he’ll be very hard to beat again,” Wood said of Belltone heading into the Glasshouse.

Also coming via the Eye Liner Stakes are the likes of runner-up Jetset Lad who went on to run a devastating close second to Firebolt in the Listed Tatt’s Mile (1600m) at Eagle Farm last Saturday, third placed Adnocon from the Rosehill stables of Gerald Ryan who had won the past two editions of the race, and the John Thompson-trained fourth placegetter Prost.

It is a quality list of Glasshouse hopefuls this year with other notable early entries including the Norm Hilton-trained Carry Me Bluey coming off two good fourth place finishes in Listed race at Eagle Farm, Gai Waterhouse Classic fourth placegetter Dual Chamber, 2011 QTC Cup winner Varenna Miss, the Gillian Heinrich-trained Startsmeup, and Liam Birchley’s recent Spear Chief Handicap champ Pepperwood.

The 2012 Glasshouse Handicap final field and barrier draw is due out on Wednesday and will be published right here at Races.com.au.

After the field is out then our preferred online betting site bookmaker.com.au will be releasing their exclusive markets.
