Eagle Farm Race 5 Results – Firebolt Wins 2012 Tattersall’s Mile

Firebolt has overcome a protest to win the Listed Tattersall’s Racing Club Mile at Eagle Farm today June 23, 2012.

The six-year-pld gelding managed to claim the first win of this campaign by a nose in the $100,000 race.

Firebolt takes out the 2012 Tattersall's Mile at Eagle Farm

A protest was launched by the jockey of Jetset Lad, Ric McMahon, who alleged Firebolt caused interference against his horse 300 metres away from the line.

However, the protest was dismissed.

Jetset Lad was unlucky to come away with second place after missing the start by two lengths and having to work hard to find a decent position.

Listen Son placed third, while Carry Me Bluey held on for fourth in the 2012 Tattersall’s Racing Club Mile.

Jockey Hugh Bowman was aboard Firebolt for today’s win.

“He’s a big strong brute, this is his level,” Bowman said.

“He’s a Group horse, not a Group 1 horse but a Group horse.

“He’s a consistent galloper,

“He was over racing so Chris and I decided to changed his pattern and get him to settle.

“It’s taken a while to get him to break through for a win but he’s been racing really well and he thoroughly deserves it.

“He’s come a long way.

“He’s going to have a better future now that he’s learned to relax.”

Bowman was unconcerned with the protest from Ric McMahon.

“Ric had plenty to say about it after the race but to be honest I can’t worry about them I just got to look after my own back yard and this guy deserves a win and I’m happy for him,” he said.

Trainer Chris Waller was also thrilled with the result.

“The horse has been very consistent,” Waller said.

“Today to get the first prize for himself was a well-deserved effort.

“It was certainly a gun ride by Hugh Bowman.”

Waller confirmed that Firebolt will now be sent out to the paddock before he is brought back for a spring carnival campaign.

“He’s been up for a very long time and the horse has done a good job to get this far so he’ll go for a well-earned break up in the warn Queensland weather and get ready for something in the spring,” he said.

Firebolt was paying odds of $2.60 to win the 2012 Tattersall’s Racing Club Mile at bookmaker.com.au.
