Tattersall’s Racing Club Mile 2012 – Firebolt Favourite

Chris Waller-trained gelding Firebolt is the early favourite to take out Saturday’s Listed $100,000 2012 Tattersall’s Racing Club Mile (1600m) at Eagle Farm.

Firebolt

Firebolt is favourite to win the Tattersall's Racing Club Mile

Currently paying $2.50 at bookmaker.com.au, the six-year-old has been impressive without winning this year, placing in the Lord Mayor’s Cup at Rosehill before producing consecutive seconds to Solzhentisyn at the Brisbane Carnival.

With Solzhenitsyn now in the paddock ahead of a spring campaign, the son of Stravinksy has an excellent opportunity to score his first victory of the carnival after drawing barrier an ideal barrier five position.

Just behind the favourite in the betting market is New Zealand gelding Jetset Lad ($3.40) who impressed in just his second start on Australian soil when a narrow runner-up to Belltone in the Eye Liner Stakes last weekend.

A winner of five of 24 starts, the John Wheeler-trained four-year-old showed his ability over the distance earlier this year when third in the Group 1 Thorndon Mile in New Zealand.

Following the top two favourites in the betting market is Toowoomba gelding Carry Me Bluey ($6.00) who has experienced mixed form at this year’s carnival.

Trained by Norm Hilton, Carry Me Bluey finished fourth first-up in the Prime Minister’s Cup at the Gold Coast before struggling to run 14th in the Group 3 BRC Sprint and again finished fourth in the Spear Chief Handicap.

Not one last start winner is included in the field but Neville O’Saunders-trained gelding Equissential ($67.00) brings form into the race as he steps up in class.

The Jet Spur four-year-old has placed in his last three starts and has drawn reasonably in barrier eight.

Other horses set to line up in the Tattersall’s Racing Club Mile are New Zealand mare St Germaine ($9.00) and Stradbroke starter Listen Son ($12.00).

The odds for all the top Eagle Farm action this weekend are now available so head to bookmaker.com.au to back a winner.
