Joe Pride’s consistent five-year-old See The World is one of the firm betting market movers for the 2012 Takeover Target Stakes ahead of the black type Gosford feature this afternoon.
The Danzero five-year-old has firmed in from $7 to $6 to take out the $100,000 Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m), running as Gosford Race 7 at 3:50pm this afternoon, through bookmaker.com.au.
A Rosehill winner over 1200m two back, last start See The World ran a good fourth behind Alberton Park on a Slow (6) Rosehill track in the Listed June Stakes (1100m).
Today they again face Alberton Park, John O’Shea’s smart mare the $2.50 favourite in the Takeover Target Stakes odds, as well as June Stakes third placegetter Skytrain ($3.75).
If successful See The World will hand Pride successive victories in the feature, the Warwick Farm horseman having prepared last year’s Takeover Target Stakes winner Title.
The horse will also be ridden by Christian Reith who returns from a nine-meeting suspension, Reith having ridden See The World to victory at Rosehill on May 26 which earned him a careless riding suspension.
“I’m hoping to come back in the winner’s circle on the first day,” Reith said yesterday.
“He (See The World) has come back in great order this preparation and seems to be a lot happier horse this time in.
“It’s going to be a tricky race for him tomorrow because Gosford is a smaller, tight-turning track and he is a backmarker.
“He’ll need a bit of luck but if he gets that he should run well.”
There are just nine horses left in the race this year following the early withdrawal of #8 Mighty Obvious who was paying around $19 in the markets.
The other notable Takeover Target Stakes market movers include Skytrain into $3.75 from $4 and Beyond Pardon who now pays $9.50 to win after being as long as $11 yesterday.
Peter Snowden’s Lonhro six-year-old Skytrain races in the Takeover Target stakes for the third year in a row having fallen in a disastrous 2010 edition before running a game fourth last year.
The Robert Smerdon-trained Beyond Pardon meanwhile was impressive last start holding on to score a narrow win in the All Victorian Sprint Heat (1000m) at Flemington.
