Kinnersley Heads 2012 Tattersall’s Cup Odds

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Kinnersley has opened favourite to atone for their Ipswich Cup loss and take out the Tattersall’s Cup 2012 at Eagle Farm Racecourse this Saturday.

Kinnersley

Kinnersley has opened favourite to win the 2012 Tattersall's Cup on Saturday

The Al Maher five-year-old went out as the shortie in the Ipswich Cup markets last weekend but didn’t salute for the punters, instead finishing a half length away second to Shenzhou Steeds.

Winner of the Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup (2000m) at Rosehill two back, Kinnersley is tipped to improve on their Ipswich effort and win this year’s $200,000 Group 3 Carlton Draught Tattersall’s Cup (2200m).

Drawn in gate 10 with Chris Munce riding Kinnersley races at Eagle Farm for the first time in the Tatt’s Cup, and has opened as the $3.20 favourite through bookmaker.com.au.

Just three other horses in the big 17-starter, one-emergency field are at single-figure odds in the Tattersall’s Cup betting markets with:

  • #6 Wazn ($6) – Chris Waller-trained five-year-old, ran second to Kinnersley in the Lord Mayor’s Cup before their ninth in the Premier’s Cup and fourth in the Brisbane Cup, winner of the Australia Day Cup back in January and would prefer a wet track
  • #1 Ginga Dude ($8) – Graeme Boyd’s veteran Kiwi galloper, ran third in the Eagle Farm Cup and fifth in the Ipswich Cup, distance is right, poor strike rate but excellent place percentage
  • #15 Maythehorsebemagic ($8.50) –Michael Moroney-trained Zabeel seven-year-old last seen running a game second to Dame Claire in the Andrew Ramsden Stakes over the two miles at Flemington, how they handle the big drop back in distance is crucial

Other longer-priced Tattersall’s Cup hopefuls that represent good value include Waterhouse’s Sydney Cup third placegetter Once Were Wild ($11) who will appreciate seeing a firmer track after two Slow course runs in Sydney, Barry Baldwin’s Ipswich Cup fourth placed Mr Light Blue ($15) and the Peter Moody-trained Elusive King ($16).
