Full Field for 2012 Rockhampton Cup

A full field of 16 horses plus five emergencies has been named for Saturday’s $100,000 2012 Rockhampton Cup (1600m) that contains a number of local hopes as well as some southern invaders.

Carrying the top weight of 58kg is Cody Morgan-trained gelding Prussian Secret who has plenty of metropolitan experience and earlier this year ran fourth to Raspberries in a quality Scone Cup field.

A winner of 12 of 36 starts, the seven-year-old has collected nearly $200,000 in prize money but faces a challenging task this weekend after drawing wide in barrier 15.

John Thompson-trained gelding They Won’t Last will travel north for the event after failing to make an impact in his last two starts at Doomben.

Another promising gelding who will travel to Rockhampton after struggling for success at the Brisbane Carnival is Gold Coast four-year-old Emvoss who showed an improved performance at Doomben last start when third to Mr Orient.

Townsville-based mare Alotta Spur has been in excellent form of late but faces a step up in class when taking on the southern travellers this weekend.

Trained by William Kenning, the daughter of Jet Spur has won four of her last five starts including her last three consecutively.

Another horse heading into the race with form on the board is Arena four-year-old Gold Coast Girl who won first-up at Mackay before taking out her two most recent starts at Rockhampton.

Two of the best local hopes are David Stafford-trained Writer and Lyle Rowe-trained Cannyclimb.

Both are at home on the Rockhampton track with Writer scoring 12 of his 13 career victories in the city and veteran Cannyclimb having won there on eight occasions.

Betting will open later this week on the Rockhampton Cup and to give yourself access to sensational odds by betting with bookmaker.com.au.

The Australian owned bookie is preferred by Races.com.au due to their great value prices and $300 bonus bet offer for new customers.
