Bated Breath Unlikely to Tackle Black Caviar

After previously being rated as on the best chances to upset wonder mare Black Caviar in Saturday’s 2012 Diamond Jubilee Stakes, British star Bated Breath looks unlikely to take on the Australian champion.

Fresh off a runner-up effort in Tuesday’s King’s Stand Stakes, potential wet weather and the presence of the world’s best sprinter will probably see Bated Breath attempt to break his Group 1 duck elsewhere.

Trainer Roger Charlton conceded the Dansili five-year-old could not challenge the Australian star who will be attempting to record a 22nd consecutive victory.

“At this stage, it is doubtful that he will reappear in the Diamond Jubilee at the weekend, unless something should happen to Black Caviar and Ascot missed the forecast rain due on Thursday and Friday,” Charlton said.

The makeup of the Diamond Jubilee field is still unknown but French mare Moonlight Cloud is considered to be a confirmed starter.

A daughter of Invincible Spirit, the four-year-old has won six times from ten starts and heads into the feature sprint on the back of a dominant two-length victory.

Black Caviar underwent a final trial on Tuesday, leaving trainer Peter Moody confident she will put on a show for the world at the famous British Racecourse.

“Happy days,” Moody said.

“She worked nicely, but the good things she needed to, she’s done so well here.”

Race jockey Luke Nolen was on board for the final hit-out and he believes she is poised to deliver her consistent best this weekend.

“She worked very stylishly, we’re very happy with her,” Nolen said.

“And that’s all she’s got to do now.

“She probably didn’t even need to do it on the way she’s come through it.”

Thousands of Australians have made the journey to Royal Ascot to watch the Bel Esprit five-year-old conquer the world in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes which will jump at 12:45am (AEST) Sunday morning.
