Tattersall’s Racing Club Mile 2012 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

Eleven horses have been named in the final field to contest the $100,000 Listed 2012 Tattersall’s Racing Club Mile (1600m) at Eagle Farm this Saturday.

Firebolt will start as one of the favourites in the Tattersall's Club Mile

Many of the runners have featured among the places at the Brisbane Winter Carnival and it provides a final chance to claim top honours for much of the field.

Chris Waller-trained gelding Firebolt is one who has shown plenty of promise at the Brisbane Carnival, producing consecutive seconds in the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup and the Listed Strawberry Road Handicap.

Spring-bound Solzhenitsyn beat him in both of his Brisbane starts and with the Robert Heathcote-trained gelding absent, Firebolt has his best chance yet to claim a winter victory.

Stradbroke starter Listen Son has struggled throughout the Winter Carnival but will appreciate the drop back to Listed level after failing to make an impact in his last two starts.

Another horse who has shown promise without being able to convert this winter is New Zealand mare St Germaine who finished fourth in the Lord Mayor’s Cup and third in the Spear Chief Handicap.

Fellow New Zealand-bred horse Jetset Lad struggled first-up when 10th in the Chief De Beers Quality but signalled his potential last start when a close second to Belltone in the Eye Liner Stakes.

Now based at Mornington, the John Wheeler-trained gelding has drawn well in barrier two and will be highly competitive if he can produce the sort of form that has seen him place at Group 1 level in New Zealand.

Stepping up in class after performing in lower level races is Toowoomba-based gelding Equissential who has placed in his last three starts.

Fellow Toomoomba gelding Carry Me Bluey was much-hyped heading into the Brisbane Winter Carnival but has been unable to finish better than fourth from three winter starts.

The Norm Hilton-trained gelding will be ridden by Damien Robinson from barrier 11 as he attempts to add to his resume of seven wins from 24 starts.
