2012 Tattersall’s Cup Field & Barrier Draw

The final Group 1 meeting of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival and the Australian thoroughbred racing season will take place at Eagle Farm this Saturday for Tattersall’s Tiara Day, one of the day’s three Group race features being the Tattersall’s Cup 2012.

Beaten Ipswich Cup favourite Kinnersley is one of the top fancies for the 2012 Tattersall's Cup this Saturday

Due to jump at 3:12pm as Eagle Farm Race 6 the $200,000 Group 3 Carlton Draught Tattersall’s Cup (2200m) has this year drawn a final field of 17 starters plus one emergency.

The 59kg topweight of the 2012 Tattersall’s Cup is Graeme Boyd’s gallant Kiwi galloper Ginga Dude who will jump from barrier nine with Hugh Bowman aboard as they look to improve on their last start fifth to Shenzhou Steeds in the Ipswich Cup (2150m) last Saturday.

They drop back one kilo and will Bowman replaces Ginga Dude’s regular rider Jason Taylor for their big assignment on Saturday.

Also coming via the Ipswich Cup are the likes of runner-up Kinnersley and third placegetter Warrior Within.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Kinnersley jumped favourite last weekend but could only manage to finish half a length away second.

Jockey Chris Munce, who retains the ride for this weekend, tipped them to improve next start on a roomier track, the Al Maher five-year-old having won the Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup (2000m) two starts back.

“Chris jumped off and said he wanted to ride Kinnersley again this week,” Waterhouse’s racing manager Bruce Slade said.

A win on the weekend and Munce will surpass the current record for Brisbane metropolitan wins in a single season currently held by Mick Dittman with 97.5.

Waterhouse will also be represented by her Sydney Cup third placegetter Once Were Wild in barrier 14.

Once Were Wild however won’t run if Eagle Farm is rated in the Slow range, two Slow (6) tracks in Sydney resulting in two sixth place finishes for the Johannesburg mare recently.

“Her record on top of the ground over a distance is terrific,” Slade said.

“We won’t be running her if the track is too wet.”

Bruce Hill’s hit and miss Gold Coast galloper Warrior Within meanwhile will be ridden by apprentice hoop Timothy Bell from gate two in the Tattersall’s Cup, Hill hoping for the rain in Brisbane to stay at bay.

Other notable hopefuls among the Tattersall’s Cup field this year include the Brian Smith-trained BTC Chairman’s Handicap winner Hume, Chris Waller’s smart Whipper stallion Wazn, Ipswich Cup fourth placegetter Mr Light Blue and the John Thompson-trained Shamardashing who was disappointing last time out in the Brisbane Cup when finishing 12th to Lights Of Heaven.
