2012 Takeover Target Stakes Final Field & Barrier Draw

A final field of 10 gallopers has been accepted for the Takeover Target Stakes 2012, the quality handicap clash to take place at Gosford Racecourse this Friday afternoon.

Alberton Park

June Stakes winner Alberton Park will back up in the 2012 Takeover Target Stakes this Friday

Scheduled to run as Gosford Race 7 at 3:50pm, the $100,000 Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) is shaping up as a nice sprint clash between some quality types.

Topweight of the Takeover Target Stakes field this year is the Ross Stitt-trained Youthful Jack to carry 59kg for their second-up run this time in.

Drawn ideally on the rails in barrier one the six-year-old Youthful Legs gelding won three straight in Tasmania, including the Listed Thetote.com.au Stakes (1200m), during February when prepared by Adam Trinder.

They resumed in Sydney on May 26 to finish fifth to the Chris Waller-trained Tromoso over 1100-metres at Rosehill and will be out to improve on that run this week.

The second heaviest weighted hopeful is then Peter Snowden’s Lonhro six-year-old Skytrain who will be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy on 58kg from gate seven.

Skytrain comes off a good third to Alberton Park in the Listed June Stakes (1100m) on a Slow (6) Rosehill track on June 9 when they had a wide barrier 10 draw and Josh Parr riding.

There are three last start winner engaged in the Takeover Target Stakes this year including the John O’Shea-trained Alberton Park in barrier five with Tommy Berry engaged for the ride.

Berry was aboard the Thorn Park mare for her first-up win in the June Stakes which was the five-year-old’s seventh career win from 34 starts.

The other last start winners vying for their second on the trot are then the Robert Smerdon-trained Beyond Pardon in barrier two with Corey Brown in the saddle who won the Victorian Sprint Heat at Flemington on June 9, and Grant Allard’s Not A Single Doubt mare My Cookie Monster coming off a win at the track over 1000m back on May 30.

Other notable hopefuls include the Joe Pride-trained See The World, Pride vying for successive Takeover Target wins following the success of Title 12 months ago, and Prince Monahsee who will be ridden by last year’s winning hoop Jay Ford.
