Takeover Target Stakes 2012 Nominations

A quality field of winter sprinters will face off at Gosford Racecourse this Friday with nominations taken for the 2012 Takeover Target Stakes today.

Alberton Park

Alberton Park will seek successive stakes wins in the 2012 Takeover Target Stakes

A total of 17 horses have been entered for this year’s edition of the $100,000 Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m), the quality handicap won 12 months ago by the Joe Pride-trained Title.

Pride has nominated one of his horses as he attempts back-to-back wins in the feature this year with See The World.

The Danzero five-year-old comes off good form at Rosehill having won a Benchmark 80 over 1200-metres on May 26 before their close last-start fourth to Alberton Park in the Listed June Stakes (1100m) on June 9.

June Stakes winner Alberton Park has also been nominated for the Takeover Target Stakes this weekend, John O’Shea’s smart Thorn Park mare to race second-up for the season.

The other last-start winners among the Takeover Target Stakes nominations for 2012 are the Robert Smerdon-trained Beyond Pardon, local Gosford galloper My Cookie Monster, Hawkesbury hopeful Stellar Academy and the Chris Waller-trained Tromso.

Waller however will take his Lonhro gelding Tromso north for the $175,000 Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes (1200m) at Brisbane’s Eagle Farm Racecourse this Saturday if the rain in Queensland stays at bay.

Other notable hopefuls include Tracey Bartley’s General Nediym mare General’s Sniper and the Peter Snowden-trained Skytrain coming off a good third to Alberton Park in the June Stakes.

The Takeover Target Stakes 2012 final field of acceptances will be released later in the week and published right here at Races.com.au.
