Ipswich Cup Odds 2012 – Ginga Dude Favourite

New Zealand-bred gelding Ginga Dude is the current favourite for Saturday’s Listed $200,000 2012 Ipswich Cup (2150m).

Ginga Dude

Ginga Dude is the Ipswich Cup favourite

Paying $3.20 at bookmaker.com.au, the Graeme Boyd-trained eight-year-old has been in excellent form this preparation, winning first-up in the Listed Members’ Quality Handicap before placing in the Lord Mayor’s Cup and the Eagle Farm Cup.

It will be no easy task for the veteran gelding who will have to break a weight-carrying record in the event when he carries 60kg from barrier 11.

Ginga Dude is followed closely in the betting by Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding Kinnersley ($3.60) who arrives in Queensland to chase a second straight victory.

The Al Maher five-year-old beat a decent field of stayers early last month when taking out the Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup at Rosehill.

Also travelling north for the race is Shenzhou Steeds ($5.50) who will be stepping up to Listed level racing for the first time.

Trained by Michael Moroney, the lightly-raced four-year-old has experienced plenty of success in his young career, winning five times from 13 starts.

No other horse falls under double figures with four runners Shuffle The Cash, Mr Light Blue, Playaction and Fantastic Blue all filling the next line of betting at $11.00.

Fantastic Blue shocked the racing world two starts back when he won the Group 3 Premier’s Cup ahead of Dance With Her paying more than $100.00.

Trained by Paul Nolan in Toowoomba, the five-year-old will be ridden by Queensland jockey Scott Galloway from barrier two.

Barry Baldwin-trained Mr Light Blue will have to turn around a horror run in his last four starts but has experienced success on the Ipswich track before which with its tight corner can cause trouble for some horses.

Other horses set to line up in the feature event include last-start winner Ausworld ($31.00) and Robert Heathcote-trained Sam’s Town ($51.00).
