Gai Waterhouse Classic 2012 Betting – Top Two Tough to Split

Two southern horses head the betting market for Saturday’s Listed $100,000 2012 Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m), which will run as the fifth race on an exciting Ipswich Cup Day program.

Holding slight favouritism is the aptly named Gai’s Choice who is being offered at $4.20 by bookmaker.com.au ahead of New Zealand-bred mare Andromache ($4.40).

Trained by David Pfieffer at Warwick Farm, Gai’s Choice has been in excellent form this preparation, winning back-to-back races at Rosehill including a dominant six-length victory last start.

Also in terrific form is Andromache who will be chasing a fifth straight win when she steps up to Listed level for the first time this weekend.

The talented four-year-old won her last start in New Zealand in January before being transferred to Sam Pritchard-Gordon’s stables in Mornington and since then has scored three wins in Victoria.

Next best in the betting are Sophie’s Spirit and Hidden Kisses who both currently sit at $8.00.

Max Hinton-trained Sophie’s Spirit struggled in the wet last start at Eagle Farm but two starts ago finished runner-up to quality mare Wealth Princess in the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes.

Four-year-old mare Hidden Kisses finished seventh in her only winter start to date but has a solid record of five wins and five places from 22 starts and has drawn well in barrier two.

Just behind the pair in the market are Sydney mare Balmont ($10.00) and Peter Snowden-trained five-year-old Mascareri ($11.00).

Mascareri, a daughter of Commands, produced an excellent run last start when winning the Listed Silk Stocking in heavy conditions on the Gold Coast.

Also heading into the race off a last-start win is Toowoomba mare Dual Chamber who won the Maroochy RSL Handicap at the Sunshine Coast earlier this month.

Other horses included in the Gai Waterhouse Classic are Les Kelly-trained Beethog ($31.00) and three-time Group level winner Montana Flyer ($81.00).

Markets are now available for all the Ipswich feature races so head to bookmaker.com.au to back a Saturday winner!
