Ginga Dude Draws Wide – 2012 Ipswich Cup Field and Barriers

Graeme Boyd-trained topweight Ginga Dude has drawn the widest barrier of the 11-horse field for Saturday’s Listed $200,000 2012 Ipswich Cup (2150m).

Already facing the challenge of carrying 60kg and trying to break a weight-carrying record by 3.5kg, it serves as another blow for the New Zealand-bred gelding who has exhibited good form this preparation.

The eight-year-old won first-up in the Listed Members’ Quality Handicap at Eagle Farm before producing consecutive place-finishes in the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup and the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup.

Drawing far better is Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding Kinnersley who will be ridden by Chris Munce  from barrier seven.

The Al Maher five-year-old won the Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup at Rosehill on May 12 and then impressed in a barrier trial on May 29.

Paul Nolan-trained gelding Fantastic Blue gets the chance to produce another surprise victory in the Queensland Winter Carnival after storming home to take out the Premier’s Cup when paying $91.00.

The five-year-old will have to bounce back from his last-start effort when he was simply outclassed when finishing nine lengths off the lead in the Group 2 Brisbane Cup.

A son of Danehill Dancer, Fantastic Blue has won 11 times from 46 starts and collected more than $380,000 in prize money.

Drawing well in barrier four is Pat Duff-trained Ausworld who won by 2.5 lengths in a Handicap event at Doomben on Monday.

He is one of eight horses to carry the minimum weight of 54kg, including Barry Baldwin-trained Mr Light Blue who will be ridden by Jeff Lloyd from barrier 10.

The four-year-old gelding was in excellent form earlier this year but will have to turn around some recent poor results that has seen him finish a best of seventh in his last four starts.

Other horses included in the Ipswich Cup field are Robert Heathcote-trained Sam’s Town and Chairman’s Handicap third place-getter Warrior Within.

The Ipswich Cup market will open shortly so for great value odds sign up to the Australian owned bookmaker.com.au.
