Ausworld In Form Ahead of 2012 Ipswich Cup

Experienced Pat Duff-trained gelding Ausworld gets the chance to capitalise on some promising lead-up form when he steps up in class in Saturday’s Listed $200,000 2012 Ipswich Cup (2150m).

Ausworld

Ausworld is one of the in-form horses in Saturday's Ipswich Cup

The seven-year-old was a narrow runner-up to Shezahotshot in the Oztronics Handicap last month and turned the tables on the mare on Monday when winning in heavy conditions at Doomben.

Trainer Duff said he is not worried about the five-day turn around as the son of Nuclear Freeze has shown no hangover effects from the tough hit-out.

“He’s pulled up really well since Monday’s win,” Duff said.

“He’s as tough as old boots and he races well at Ipswich.”

Some horses struggle to adapt to the tight-turning Ipswich track but Duff said he has no fears as Ausworld has raced at the venue twice for two runner-up finishes.

The seven-year-old gelding has raced 51 times for seven wins and 15 placings on his way to collecting $250,000 in prize money.

Duff is hoping to take Ausworld to the Grafton Cup next month if he can continue his run of form in Ipswich this weekend.

He was one of 11 horses named in the final field for Saturday’s feature and will run from barrier four with Grant Cooksley on board.

Topweight Ginga Dude will have to break a weight carrying record with 60kg but the veteran gelding has been in excellent form.

Trained by Graeme Boyd, the eight-year-old has recorded consecutive placings at Group level at the Brisbane Winter Carnival in the Lord Mayor’s Cup and the Eagle Farm Cup.

Also set to start is Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding Kinnersley who is fresh off a win in the Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup at Rosehill early last month.

He joins fellow recent winner Fantastic Blue in carrying 55.5kg while the rest of the field will carry the minimum 54kg.

Ipswich Cup provides the feature meeting in Queensland this weekend with other highlights on the eight-race program the Listed Eyeliner Stakes and Gai Waterhouse Classic.

Odds will be available shortly on all the Ipswich Saturday action and bookmaker.com.au will be offering great value odds.
