Ginga Dude Heads 2012 Ipswich Cup Nominations

The Queensland Winter Carnival may be coming to a close but quality racing heads to Ipswich this weekend for an exciting day of action that is highlighted by the Listed $200,000 2012 Ipswich Cup (2150m).

Nineteen horses have been nominated for the feature event and headlining the list is New Zealand-bred gelding Ginga Dude who is fresh off a third-place effort in the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup.

Ginga Dude, trained by Graeme Boyd, has been in excellent form this preparation, winning the Members’ Quality Handicap first-up before recording consecutive placings at Group level.

The son of Istidaad has 14 wins from 51 career starts including three at Group level and has collected more than $420,000 in prize money.

Toowoomba gelding Fantastic Blue is another nominated horse to experience success at the Brisbane Winter Carnival, having taken out the Group 3 Premier’s Cup on May 26.

But the Paul Nolan-trained five-year-old will have to bounce back from his last-start effort when he finished 11th in the Group 2 Brisbane Cup.

Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding Kinnersley will make the trip north for the event after winning the Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup at Rosehill last month before recently impressing with a strong barrier trial.

The Al Maher five-year-old has recorded just 15 starts to date but has won on five occasions and collected more than $230,000 in prize money.

Shamardashing earlier this year recorded back-to-back victories at Doomven on the Gold Coast and then impressed when fourth in the Group 3 Premier’s Cup.

But the John Thompson-trained gelding will have to show a quick recovery to that kind of form to be a chance this weekend after struggling to finish nearly 10 lengths behind the leader when 12th in the Brisbane Cup.

Other horses nominated for the Ipswich Cup include Gold Coast-based gelding Lake George and last-start winner Ausworld.

When the Ipswich Cup opens later this week, the best odds can be found at bookmaker.com.au.

Home of the $300 bonus bet, bookmaker.com.au is fully Australian owned and has the best value odds on all the Queensland Carnival action.
