Mid Summer Music Wins 2012 Stradbroke Handicap – Results

Mid Summer Music has produced a major upset to win the $1 million Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm Racecourse today June 9, 2012.

The six-year-old mare was an unexpected victor in Queensland’s richest race, in which she beat Buffering, who placed second, and Happy Zero, who placed in third.

It was the first win for Mid Summer Music since last August, when she won the Group 3 Cockram Stakes.

The mare’s most recent result was a ninth placing in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 last month at Doomben Racecourse.

Trainer Peter Moody couldn’t hide his excitement over Mid Summer Music’s surprise win.

“It’s tremendous isn’t it? This is as good as it gets,” Moody said.

“This is the ultimate in Queensland racing and a tremendous thrill.

“I’ve got to be honest, I didn’t expect it, and that makes it all the better.

“It’s been an unbelievable day, go the maroons!

“I doubted her and she’s made a mug out of me again and I hope she continues doing it for a while.”

Moody was once again impressed with the ride given to Mid Summer Music by top stable jockey Luke Nolen.

“I thought she was in a wonderful spot and I was wrapped with where Luke had her,” he said.

“It was a tremendous ride, he rode her for luck and she produced the goods.

“She’s just an unbelievable tryer.”

Nolen was overcome with emotion after the running of the 2012 Stradbroke Handicap.

“She’s been very honest her whole career,” Nolen said.

“We weren’t super confident going in.

“She’d prepped well for it but we thought to be a genuine Group 1 contender we needed it near bottomless.

“But I travelled like the winner a long way out and she proved them all wrong.

“I hope someone had a bet on her.”
