Hoss Amor Wins 2012 Lancaster Stakes – Race 1 Results

Hoss Amor has displayed her class by winning the 2012 Listed Lancaster Stakes, which was the first race of the day at Eagle Farm Racecourse.

The two-year-old filly won the 2012 Lancaster Stakes by two and a quarter lengths as she extended her winning record to two victories from five career runs.

It was the second Listed win for Hoss Amor, who was awarded the title in the Listed Hampden Stakes only this week after it emerged that the original winner, Noogoora Burr, had produced a positive swab in the race.

Trainer John O’Shea was thrilled that Hoss Amor could produce a Listed win in her own right on today’s Stradbroke Handicap meeting.

O’Shea felt the General Nediym filly’s ideal barrier of five sealed the deal for today’s win.

“We had the opportunity to use her gate and we took that opportunity,” O’Shea said.

“That’s two listed wins now and she’s won two from five.”

Hoss Amor placed second behind Boban in her last start in the Listed The Pheonix at Doomben on May 26, and O’Shea feels an unsuccessful gear change is to blame.

“I probably made  able taking the winkers off her (last start),” he said.

“They’re back on her today.”

Hoss Amor was ridden by jockey Jim Cassidy in the 2012 Lancaster Stakes and O’Shea is hopeful their successful partnership will continue into the Stradbroke Handicap where they will race favourite Sea Siren.

“He’s in a great frame of mind and hopefully it translates into a bit of success here today,” the trainer said.

Cassidy was pleased with Hoss Amor’s winning run.

“She’s been knocking on the door, good effort today. She’s nice and fit,” he said.

Sunset Affair placed second in today’s 2012 Lancaster Stakes, while Saturn Rock ran home for third.
