Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Exciting Kelso Wood-trained colt Sizzling is odds-on favourite to take out the Group 1 $500,000 2012 TJ Smith (1600m) at Eagle Farm this weekend.
The son of Snitzel has been the dominant juvenile of the Queensland Winter Carnival so far and is currently $1.85 to take out Saturday’s two-year-old feature event.
Sizzling has been in sensational form since resuming from a spell in early May, taking out the Listed Ken Russell Memorial Classic on the Gold Coast before winning the Group 2 Champagne Classic and the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes.
The chances of him claiming a fourth straight victory and a first at Group 1 level improved yesterday when he received a favourable barrier three position and he will be ridden by regular jockey Chris Munce.
Second in the bookmaker.com.au market is Boban ($5.50) who appears to be the only realistic chance of toppling the favourite.
The Anthony Freedman-trained colt has been inconsistent due to behaviour issues but produced an excellent run last start when taking out the Phoenix by 1 ½ lengths.
Experienced jockey Hugh Bowman was able to make the talented two-year-old relax at the back of the field before the son of Bernadini showed a remarkable turn of foot to gallop away from the rest of the field at the top of the straight.
Next best in the betting is Academus ($6.00) who gets a chance to exact revenge on Sizzling after placing behind the star in his last two starts.
The Peter Snowden-trained gelding has drawn well in barrier six and will be ridden by Snowden stable jockey Kerrin McEvoy.
Lightly-raced Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding Kabayan ($12.00) will make the trip to Brisbane for the race after winning first-up at Wyong and running second in his last start at Rosehill.
Other horses set to line up include unbeaten Fastnet Rock colt Ninth Legion ($12.00), New Zealand colt Choice Bro ($31.00) and Hampden Stakes winner Noogoora Burr.
