Luckygray Heads 2012 Belmont Sprint Nominations

Talented four-year-old Luckygray heads a 17-horse nominations list for this Saturday’s Group 3 $125,000 2012 Belmont Sprint (1400m).

The Gino Poletti-trained gelding has been allocated 61kg and heads into the race fresh off a dominant 3 ½ length victory in the Group 3 Roma Cup on May 26.

A son of Bradbury’s Luck, the exciting sprinter has scored eight victories from 11 starts including the Group 1 Railway Stakes at Ascot last November.

He already boasts a prize pool of more than $960,000 and his impressive last-start victory has sparked talk of a tilt at Melbourne’s Spring Racing Carnival.

Also heavily weighted is experienced gelding Grand Nirvana who has received a 60kg allocation for the feature sprint.

The Fred Kersley-trained six-year-old returns to Belmont to defend the event he won last year at a most suitable distance.

From 10 career victories, the son of Scenic has scored four of those at 1400 metres and heads into the race on the back of a third-place effort in the Roma Cup.

Grand Nirvana’s impressive resume includes five victories at Group level and he boasts a prize pool of more than $1 million.

The gelding is one of a number of Group level winners nominated including 10-year-old gelding Hadabeclorka who took out the 2010 Winterbottom Stakes.

From 48 starts, the Brent Larsson-trained veteran has scored nine wins and showed last start he still has plenty to offer when fourth in the Roma Cup.

Also nominated is Colour Correct who is returning from a spell after last being seen running in the Perth Cup on New Year’s Day.

The Ross and Clint Price-trained gelding has a decent record of seven wins from 23 starts including the Group 2 Cox States at Ascot in December.

Other horses nominated for the Belmont Sprint include Grant Williams-trained trio Battle Emblem, Avante and Dreamaway and last-start winner Cavallo Pazzo.

When betting opens later this week for the Perth feature sprint head to to back a winner!

The preferred bookie has sensational value odds and offer a $300 bonus bet offer to first time depositing customers.
