Quality Sprinters Nominated for 2012 Lightning Handicap

A number of quality sprinters have been nominated to contest the Listed $80,000 2012 Lightning Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm this Saturday.

Liston Son (inside) and Excellantes

In-form gelding Excellantes has been nominated for the Lightning Handicap

Included in the 17-horse nominations list is Robert Heathcote-trained gelding Excellantes who will be chasing a third consecutive victory after an impressive winter campaign to date.

The talented four-year-old opened his winter carnival with a dominant three-length win in the Westfield Chermside Handicap before leading from start to finish to take out the Chief De Beers Quality.

The 1000-metre Lightning Handicap distance may be slightly short of ideal for the in-form gelding but one horse it will definitely suit is Adebisi.

Trained by Desleigh Forster, the Brisbane-based sprinter has a reputation for getting out of the gates quickly and has won twice at the distance.

The son of Shovhog will appreciate a drop back in class after failing to be competitive at Group 1 level in both the BTC Cup and the Doomben 10,000.

Also dropping back in class if Facile Tigre who finished at the back of the field in the BTC Cup after experiencing mixed results in elite level racing earlier this year.

The Catbird gelding finished third in the Oakleigh Plate to Woorim first-up in February before a disappointing 15th in a strong Newmarket Handicap field.

There will be no shortage of horses who like to set the pace early with Kelso Wood-trained Seek And Find another sprinter in good form.

Following a first-up win in the Doomben Dash the five-year-old again ran well to finish runner-up to Excellantes in the Chief De Beers Quality.

Other horses nominated to contest the Lightning Handicap include Doomben Dash runner-up Nuptse and last-start winners Audacious Spirit and Tierqualo.

The Lightning Stakes take place this Saturday as part of an exciting Eagle Farm card that features the Group 1 $1 million Stradbroke Handicap.

When betting opens later this week on all the Eagle Farm action, the best value odds can be found at bookmaker.com.au.
