Sizzling Fires to Win BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes 2012

Much-hyped colt Sizzling has lived up to his potential at Eagle Farm today, taking out the Group 2 2012 BRC Sires’ Stakes by nearly two lengths ahead of Academus and Dances On Stars.

Sizzling is the 2012 BRC Sires' Produce Stakes winner at Eagle Farm

It marks the third straight victory for the Kelso Wood-trained two-year-old who will start as favourite in next week’s Group 1 TJ Smith.

Ridden by experienced Queensland jockey Chris Munce, the race favourite was held in the middle of the field up until the final turn.

From there Munce had to work to get Sizzling to the outside but once he found some room there was no stopping the talented youngster who withstood a strong fight from second favourite Academus.

The 1600-metre TJ Smith now beckons and trainer Wood predicts he will only improve as he goes up in distance.

“He’s such a relaxed horse, nothing worries him, he’s like a six-year-old, a beautiful horse,” Wood said.

“He’ll win by further (at 1600m).”

Jockey Munce has ridden him in all of his starts to date but admitted he had to change his plans after the field got out faster than anticipated.

“There was a bit more speed in the race than what I’d first anticipated,” Munce said.

“It sort of mapped out not how I’d expected but in saying that I had the right horses to follow.”

Munce described Sizzling as a “real little pro” and is looking forward to riding him in his first Group 1 test next week.

Sizzling’s record now stands at four wins and two place-finishes from seven starts and boasts a prize pool of more than $460,000.

The TJ Smith Stakes will take place on a bumper card next weekend as part of Stradbroke Handicap day.

A lot of these horses will be headed to next weekend’s TJ Smith Plate so remember the form and head to to back a winner!
