Red Tracer Wins Wet Dane Ripper Stakes 2012

Chris Waller-trained mare Red Tracer has produced an excellent effort to win the Group 2 $200,000 2012 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm today.

The four-year-old got out of the blocks quickly before sitting just off the speed with experienced Sydney rider Hugh Bowman in the saddle.

After the track was rated as heavy this morning, Red Tracer was backed into $2.90 favourite and justified the support to score a fifth victory from five starts in wet conditions.

As they came into the straight, the daughter of Dane Shadow showed her wet track credentials by galloping away from the rest of the field to score a convincing victory.

The impressive win has forced Waller to consider a Stradbroke start next weekend especially if the wet Queensland weather continues next week.

“You wouldn’t rule out a Stradbroke…if it’s going to be wet all week and the track is going to be heavy you would think about it,” Waller said.

The more likely option for Red Tracer will be the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara which will take place at Eagle Farm on June 23.

Waller was full of praise for the mare who bounced back from the Sydney Carnival where she struggled in Group 1 races.

“She’s had a pretty tough Autumn already…hopefully she comes through it well,” Waller said.

“She’s got a big heart and she’s a pretty talented horse when she’s got conditions to suit.”

Bowman also praised the horse and believes she has the ability to succeed at the elite level.

She’s not out of Group 1 racing on her day. She likes the wet and it just brings her into her own.”

The win takes her already impressive career record to eight wins from 18 starts.

Peter Snowden-trained Forfeiture finished runner-up while Gold Coast-based mare Alltherightmoves back up her Glenlogan Park Stakes placing to run third.
