Queensland Oaks 2012 – Betting Update

The rain has fallen in Brisbane overnight which has seen the track rated as heavy (8) at Eagle Farm today for an action-packed meeting that features the Group 1 2012 Queensland Oaks (2400m).

This has caused some changes in the market and Shaune Ritchie-trained filly Miss Artistic ($5.00) has jumped ahead of fellow New Zealand horse Quintessential ($6.00) to become bookmaker.com.au favourite.

The daughter of Darci Brahma arrived in Australia on the back of  New Zealand Oaks win and since then has finished fourth in the Gold Coast Bracelet and a close second in the Roses at Doomben.

Chris Waller-trained filly Scorpio Queen’s ($7.00) wet track form has seen take over the third line of betting while Angel Of Mercy has lengthened from $6.00 to $10.00.

A daughter of Choisir, Scorpio Queen has recorded two victories from three starts in the wet including the Gold Coast Bracelet when she beat a number of Oaks starters.

The major market mover is another New Zealand-bred filly Dowager Queen who is now being offered at $8.00 after opening at $26.00 during the week.

The Savabeel filly struggled last start when finishing 11th in the Roses but has won three times on heavy tracks and will appreciate the conditions today.

If the market is anything to go by there is a good chance the 2012 Oaks could go to a New Zealand horse and another who comes into contention is Poste Restante (12.00).

The Howard Matthews-trained filly hit the line hard last start when finishing a neck behind Brambles to take third place in the Rough Habit Plate.

Prior to that the daughter of Postponed impressed on home soil with a fourth-place effort in the New Zealand Oaks and a runner-up finish to the highly-rated Malandrino in the Manawatu Classic.

Other horses set to line up in today’s Queensland feature event include Schweppes Oaks winner Invest ($13.00) and John Thompson-trained Pretty Pins ($17.00).
