Lights Of Heaven Breaks Drought to Win 2012 Eagle Farm Cup

Lights Of Heaven has justified her favouritism to claim top honours in the Group 2 $250,000 2012 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m) ahead of  Scenic Shot and Ginga Dude.

Lights Of Heaven wins the 2012 Eagle Farm Cup

Ridden by Luke Nolen, the daughter of Zabeel sat just off the pace for the majority of the race before peeling around the outside at the final bend.

At the top of the straight it looked like it could go any of four ways but the Peter Moody-trained four-year-old showed a nice turn of foot to skip clear of her rivals and win by a length.

Moody expressed relief that the talented mare had finally finished in front with her previous most recent victory coming in March 2011 in the Schweppes Oaks.

It comes on the back of a promising build-up that saw her produce two consecutive runner-up finishes in both the Hollindale Stakes and the Group 1 Doomben Cup.

“Job done, it’s good to see her back in the winners circle,” Moody said.

“I think just immaturity has been a major contributing factor.

“We’ve just been patient and let her mature, she’s a nice mare and I think she’ll be a nicer mare as a five-year-old.”

Moody said she is a strong possibility of running in next weekend’s Brisbane Cup provided she pulls up okay after the testing run on a heavy surface.

Nolen has ridden Lights Of Heaven in the majority of her starts and also expressed relief that she was finally able to cross the line in front of the field.

“She was getting a bit frustrating but she’s finally put away an even field at weight-for-age so we are very pleased,” Nolen said.

The win takes her record to five wins from 13 starts and has her on track for a re-match next week with Doomben Cup winner Mawingo who crossed the line a head in front of her in the Group 1 feature.

There is still plenty of Group level action today and next weekend at Eagle Farm so head to for the best betting.
