A bumper eight-race program will be held at Eagle Farm tomorrow and one of the key support races to the Group 1 Queensland Oaks is the Group 2 2012 QTC Cup.
Run over 1300 metres, the $1750,000 event will jump as the last race of the day and tests a full field of 16 quality sprinters.
Just behind the favourite in the betting market is 2011 Queensland Guineas winner Torio’s Quest ($6.00) and promising Kelso Wood-trained gelding Belltone ($6.50).
Betting is extremely tight and another two horses fall under double figures with last-start winner Audacious Spirit ($7.50) and wet-track specialist Neeson ($8.00).
Not sure who to back in the last race of the day at Eagle Farm? Never mind, we have done the hard work for you and are here to bring you our expert selections for the QTC Cup.
#16 Belltone $6.50
Produced a very promising run first-up and despite finishing fifth was just half a length behind winner Tiger Tees in the Group 3 BRC sprint.
The Brahms gelding delivered a sensational effort to nearly run into the placings despite a wide barrier draw and has drawn perfectly here in barrier five.
The expected wet track is the only query but jockey Chris Munce should get him into a good position early and if he can produce a run like the BRC Sprint he should be too good.
Meet George was strong last start in the BRC Sprint and if not for one of the Stradbroke favourites, Tiger Tees, he would’ve taken top honours.
The Brian Smith-trained gelding knows how to win, boasting a solid record of 10 wins from 40 starts and an expected heavy track won’t worry this experienced gelding.
After struggling throughout the Sydney Winter Carnival, Riva De Lago bounced back last start to win the Yarraman Park-Horsepower Handicap ahead of a quality field at Scone.
He has reportedly been flying in trackwork this week and trainer Con Karakatsanis will have him in top condition as he looks to score entry into the Stradbroke.
#15 Beethog $61.00
On a dry track this Les Kelly-trained mare doesn’t come close to the top horses here but with rain falling in the Queensland capital and expected to continue tomorrow she becomes a great outside chance.
She’s at huge odds here, has won a number of times in the wet and last time she ran on a heavy track she finished third in a decent Silk Stocking field on the Gold Coast.
